Did you know that the crawfish is called the gambero rosso in Italian?
It’s also the name that Italian author Collodi gave to the osteria (tavern) that Pinocchio visits in The Adventures of Pinocchio, the osteria del gambero rosso, the “crawfish tavern.”
Crawfish are indigenous to the New World but were introduced into European waterways in the second half of the nineteenth century.
